I climb into the train awkwardly, keeping my head down. I didn't want anyone too see me; look at me. The girl next to me seemed to be thinking the same way, so I barely acknowledged her existence. There was no time for making friends, though that was something I was good at.

"Right this way." Someone gives me a hard shove, and I clumsily trip into the place I was shoved. "Ow," is all I say.

A man walked in, and looked over at the male tribute. "Hello. I'm Mason Elm, your mentor."

I put out my hand, remembering my manors, though they weren't exactly important right now. "I'm Jokk Spaff, District 5's male tribute." I make eye contact, trying to decide what I think of my mentor.

He nodded, observing him. He looked familiar. A friend of his daughter, perhaps? "Do you, by any chance, know Cinnamon Elm?"

My eyes grow big. I hadn't put together that Mason Elm was the very same Mr. Elm that had one the Hunger Games before. "Um . . . Yeah. She's my sisters friend. You're Cinn's dad?" I felt safe with Mason as my mentor. He had won with such skill.
