Jett knew immediately after the shot that her district partner was gone. "No!!" she screamed, choking back a sob. This wasn't happening. This couldn't -- oh wait. It already did. Even in her newly styled rainbow hair, she felt like she wanted to crawl in a hole and die. Watching Pyrite die was like watching her brother or sister die. Her eyes glazed over with tears, but she turned to fight anyways.

She would have to push the emotions behind her, and try to focus on surviving. She could cry later, if she lived. Jett lunged at the girl from District 12, mad at her. She caused this. Sure, you could call the tribute stupid for thinking it, but she felt the need to blame someone.

The arrow plunges deep into Pyrite's heart... it shoot straight through his body, carving a large, messy hole where his heart was, and carrying his heart out with it. His heart and the arrow stab into the roots of a dead plant, and as the blood seeps into the ground, the plant livens up and blooms into a beautiful heart-shaped rose, as if the Gamemakers are preserving the memory of the star-crossed lovers forever. It's a bloody gift to Jett, but a gift nonetheless.

Lori watched as the bloody display before her unfolded right in front of her eyes. Pyrite's heart was ripped clean from his chest and with it came the arrow. Her mouth dropped, as she then realized she was no better than the careers she had hoped to never become. She always thought that she would only attack if she was provoked, but these two never harmed her and now this boy's lifeless body was proof of what she had become. She scrambled forward her brain on auto pilot as she grabbed his medical kit and claimed it as her own. Her body and mind felt so numb and as she raised the bow once more she aimed at the girl. She could feel her eye twitch some as she aimed and let go. "That could have easily been the other way around, that could be Nic lying in front of me right now." Somehow it all felt so surreal, so bizarre as the world seemed to drain of all the colors around her. They say killing a person does that to you, makes you apathetic. Lori knew now that that statement was nothing but true

Jett watched in horror as Pyrite's heart was ripped clean out of his body, making a permanent scar in her mind. She gasped and backed away, watching the bloody mess hurt into a heart shaped flower. Tears ran silently down her cheek as she nearly avoided the other female tribute's attack. Jett whipped around, her rainbow hair sticky with her tears. She couldn't stop the tears and the blurry vision, but attacked the girl again none the less.

Nicanor watched as Lori's arrow pierced Pyrite's skin and carried his heart through the back of him. He had never seen such a gruesome before, even with all the years of helping out sick people and seeing them die in front of him, this was the worst thing he had seen. He knelt on the ground, his stomach feeling uneasy as he vomited on a batch of grass in front of him. He looked up in time to see the girl, with a tear in her eye, lunge at Lori. His instincts took over and he lunged with his sword to block the attack, then hopefully swing and try to hit the girl.

Jett wanted to leave this place, this stupid place where she felt safe. She wasn't safe here. Or anywhere. The tribute needed to cry and sob and throw a fit, not fight these tributes. It wasn't fair. Jett hoped that she would have an opportunity to escape, knowing that she was fast, deadly fast. She could see the rainbow color in her hair fade, and almost felt that it signaled her time to leave this place. Without even looking at the District 12 tributes, the girl broke out into a dead sprint, going anywhere else but there. She wanted to be gone.

The world kept moving around Lori as she stood there lost in her own world. An attack came towards her and Nic had blocked it but she hadn't even noticed, she was so anesthetized at this point. She needed to process what was going on and she was going to get that chance as the girl, Jett ran off. Lori collapsed to her knees with her hands at her sides just staring forward at the mangled body in front of her. She felt like she needed to vomit, but it wouldn't come up. "Nicanor...I'm....I'm sorry." Lori spoke softly, her eyes slowly moving to look at the rest of her surroundings. She wasn't going to cry, but she still felt numb.

"Jett!"

The arrow flew through his body before he knew what was happening. He turned and with the seconds he had left, fell to the ground in a mangled pile of dead child. If he could be called a child anymore, that was. The experience had been a gruesome one, yet the best of his life. He'd finally left the boring routine of home and met Jett. He knew she didn't think of him in that way. Shame, really.

He turned to the blank looking girl's face a few metres away from him. The face of his killer. It wasn't her fault. He knew she probably wouldn't give a care what he said now. But he had to hope.

"You," he began, fighting back tears, "Please don't go after her. I'd do anything to keep her safe. In this case, die. Spend all the time you can in here with him, because it's all the time you've got together. If you do end up seeing Jett again, tell her something;

His head slumped back, giving him a view of the picturesque sky above as he let his body go numb, relieving himself of the burdens of the world and slipping into a sweet and satisfyingly endless slumber and letting his last few words escape his mouth.

"I'll be waiting for her."

Nicanor watched as the Jett ran away from them. he would not chase her, he was still not feeling all that good about watching Pyrite die right in front of him. He watched as Lori dropped to her knees, her arms by her side as she starred at the body. He knelt down in front of her, trying to block her view of the kid that she killed. "You have nothing to be sorry about Lori", he said as he reached his hand out and touched her arm, while looking into her eyes.

Jett soon disappears in the distance. Robin pops her head out of the bag and yawns, not seeing the dead body.

Lori looked at Nicanor as he knelt down in front of her. The judgmental voice in her head was booming, now speaking after the events finished unfolding. "My god...I didn't think you would actually do it. What is wrong with you? You killed him in cold blood...shot through the heart and your to blame." It kept speaking in her mind, the words echoing and bouncing around in her skull. She felt as Nic touched her arm and she pulled away from him. She stood up and walked over to the boy's body and grabbed a few of the supplies he had on him like the blanket, 3 apples and one of the axes as well as the arrows that she had shot during the last battle. She bowed her head to show respect to him and his sacrifice and she picked the rose that was next to him. She placed it in his hand and crossed his arms over his chest trying to hide the gaping hole that was now there. Lori whispered under her breath, "I promise I will. I will see you again soon enough." She turned away from the body at her feet and moved forwards putting her new found supplies in her bag with Robin. She walked but stopped when she was side by side with Nicanor. She looked to the ground, contemplating what she should say next. She had so many things she wanted to say to him right then at this moment. "...We should get going. You should eat something." She walked forwards not sure where exactly she was heading but knowing that the hovercraft would soon come for Pyrite's body and that they needed to leave.

Nicanor watched as Lori brushed his hand off of her arm and walked away from him and towards the body. He sighed quietly as she did so, he was just trying to help her but she never seemed to want his help. He turned around, still kneeling on one knee, and watched as she folded his arms over his chest and placed a flower in his hands. He gave an ever so slight grin as she payed her respect to the kid. "This may be the first truly beautiful thing she has done", he thought to himself. He stood up when Lori walked back over towards him. It seemed like she wanted to say more then she did, but Nic knew that it was hard for her to tell people what she was thinking, so he brushed of what she said, or lack of things that she said and just nodded. He grabbed the crackers out of his pack, eating the rest of the pack since Lori had just picked up more then enough food to last them awhile.

The cut rose in Pyrite's hand withers, but another rose blooms from the cut stem a few feet away, possibly fed by the blood of his heart, which has been dripping around in that area a lot lately.

Lori remembered Pyrite's last words so clearly. "Spend all the time you can in here with him, because it's all the time you've got together." He was right, this was going to be the last days that she would be able to spend with Nicanor because in the end only one person could live and that meant that one of them if not both would die in these games. It was a grim realization, but one that she had always known in the back of her mind. She just tried not to think about it, but Pyrite's words just kept bring the thought forwards. She turned back to her companion and looked at him for a moment as he ate his crackers. She gave him a small smile and took one of the apples that she had in her bag. She took the axe and after some cleaning she cut it in two and handed the other half to him. She then cut the other piece in half and fed the quarter piece to Robin before eating the last quarter herself. She waited a moment before speaking, "Thank you. For everything, blocking for me and all of that. I...don't tell you enough." She looked to the ground, unable to bring herself to look directly at him in the eyes. She moved close to him and hugged him, wrapping her arms around him and for the first time in a long time she felt like she wasn't alone. She knew that this feeling was fleeting and soon she would have to let go but she just stayed there for a few moments, enjoying the peace that this action brought her. She let her arms drop back to her side as she moved back from him and looked up into his eyes. "I love you Nicanor." She just stared into his eyes, wanting him to know that she was sincere. It was overdue, but she finally was able to say it to him. "I'm sorry I didn't say it sooner, but this is not something that I say to anybody." Lori moved, knowing that they really needed to move now, they needed to get away from here and make sure no one found them. Other tributes could be anywhere and she didn't want to be the one caught off guard. "We really need to get moving."
