| It's called the Hunger Games because people go hungry in the Games and die. In corners. While crying. Like I would.. ;w;
And on a more serious note, they call it the Hunger Games because.. it sounds cool. uwu | |

| I believe that the term 'Hunger Games' doesn't really suit the fact that the majority of tributes died by murder, not hunger. Sure, they go hunger but wouldn't they die of dehydration beforehand? I believe that instead of it being the Hunger Games every single Games, it should be named after a symbol of the games. (33rd - Dragon Games.) (36th - Dino-Games) | |

| But wouldn't it be the dangers of the Games that would contribute to the name? Like couldn't it be, perhaps, the Zombie Games or the Troll Games? But yeah Hunger is a piece of survival, but like what Matt said, Hunger doesn't kill the tributes as much as killing physically by another tribute? |

| You know topics we have to talk about are kinda meh. Like no one wants to talk about some topic where they're barely any information, or there's a clear reason why. That reason being, that's what the author wanted to name it. Anyways "Official" it's not thg official anything until you ask an admin about it being official so really that's a disclaimer, and also the title "debate team" is irrelevant because we're gonna be debating against ourselves. So call it something like Debate club or debate thread or whatever. | |

| The Hunger Games was put in place as a reminder of the war that came before. The war that broke out had to do with the few resources that were left, namely food. Plenty of riots and even a war all started because people were hungry. Since the hunger games represents the war it makes sense to call it the hunger games because it all started because of hunger. I could of sworn that was established in the book. Perhaps I am wrong. | |

| The world is called "Panem" because of Panem et Circenses, Latin for bread and circuses, which was a term used to describe the ancient Roman gladiatorial games that Suzanne Collins claims she based the concept of the Hunger Games on. "Bread and circuses" is the term to describe distracting the peasants of Rome with free bread and gladiatorial games for entertainment, but the Games were more entertainment towards the Capitol. The Hunger Games are a corrupted version of the Panem et Circenses concept in which instead of using the Games to appease the poor, they use it almost as a torture device and to keep them in their place with force rather than bribes. Perhaps, then, the games are called the "Hunger Games" because it's a corruption of the tradition of giving out free bread. Not only are the games not entertaining to them because their children are dying, but they are literally named for "Hunger" because that's the opposite of what Panem et Circuses is supposed to be. (The concept of tesserae sort of screws this up, but the corruption of Panem et Circuses remains. It's just not as clear-cut in opposites.) But yeah, I'm pretty sure Mockingjay's right about them saying in the book it's to remind them of starvation and everything. |

| Its called the Hunger Games because if you win you get food for your family and never go hungry, and if you put your name in extra times like Gale did in the first book then you get extra food as well.
The Capitol doesn't participate in the Games symbolically as they are the only part of Panem that will never go hungry.
