"Welcome, welcome!" The District Eight escort chirped as the citizens gathered. She cast her bleached smile over the dull crowd, waiting for them to settle before continuing on. "Today, one lucky man and one lucky woman shall have the honor of participating in the 37th Hunger Games!" she paused for a cheer, "Now then, Ladies first!" The escort's voice cut off as she broke from the microphone. Her hand dipped into the bowl of names and shuffled the papers. Finally, she withdrew a name and took breath to announce. Who could it be?

She dug her hand into the bowl and pulled out the female tribute's name, "Jade Trenton" She called out and then she dug into the male's bowl. "Shaun Rivers"

Rune had been planning this for a while. She had no family, nothing to live for. She fully expected her name to be called, and when it wasn't, she looked up in surprise. "I Volunteer as tribute!" she snapped out as she moved forward. She had to be in these Games. It was her time.
Once on the stage, Rune could see all the strange looks. "Rune Highspeak. I voulnteer." she said to the escort, then looked back out at the crowd, fixing them with a glare that dared them to judge her.

Shaun raised his eyebrows, a slight look of shock on his face as his name was called. He muttered to himself, "Well...suppose I'm off then..." He made his way through the crowd, nodding to some of the people he knew. He stood next to another girl, however she was quickly volunteered for. He looked as someone replaced her, saying her name was Rune Highspeak. He smirked, shaking his head. Why someone from District 8 would put their life on the line, he didn't know...but he couldn't deny that he respected her for it.
