The District 2 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 33rd Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

It was the day of the reapings and the entire population of District 2 had been buzzing since the wee hours of the morning. As Anders walked the streets with Sammy towards the center square where the reapings took place he could hear both the sounds of parents encouraging their children to volunteer and some comforting them telling them they would never get chosen. It was a toss up as to whether or not the odds of the Yorke children being picked were high. Anders did usually put his name in more times as he picked up tessera for his family but would never let Sammy do it. So if either of them got picked it was sure to be Anders. He was capable of being in the games, but he tried not to think about it at all. For now he just wanted to make sure nothing happened to Sammy, and if that meant he had to volunteer for him then so be it.

They reached the square and after both of the brothers were checked in Anders went right to the front where the 18 year olds stood, waiting for the names to be drawn. The escort made their way up to the center of the stage and with a pair of white teeth showing and an almost shrill voice did her opening speech. Anders turned to see if anyone was around him that he recognized. He of course saw his brother behind him and made a face at the ridiculousness of the Capitol citizen in front of him and Sammy of course laughed. He then spotted Astrid directly across from him. Anders didn't know if she saw him too but he nodded in her general direction and then faced forwards, waiting to hear who was going to be sent to slaughter.

That morning, Astrid had woken up and she managed to get herself to the shower, she scrubbed herself down and then she found some of her reaping clothing, it was always a pain to get dressed and look nice for your possible pick of going into the slaughter house. Astrid knew that odds of her being picked were very slim. She never had to apply for anything, since she was the youngest, and her older sister was a victor. Not to mention her boyfriend now was as well.

Astrid let her hair stay down today and she went to get something to eat. After that in the morning she had spoken to her sister and eventually Rafe. She gave him a hug before he had to go earlier because he was the mentor. Astrid eventually made it there walking alone. She went into the crowds and she stood there, at least she only had herself to worry about now. No siblings, and Rafe already came home alive. She looked over across from her and she saw Anders. She saw him nod and she gave him a wave before she faced the front.

She dug her hand into the bowl and pulled out the female tribute's name, "Astrid Splints" She called out and then she dug into the male's bowl. "Anders Yorke"

Astrid was waiting for the name to be called of the female tribute, she took a breath in and she braced herself for the worst possible outcome. When the escort pulled the slip out of the bowl and opened it she was waiting for a name to be called. Soon the name happened to be hers. Astrid, walked up to the stage, she didn't have any vulnerable emotion displayed on her face, this was a career district, only the finest came from her kinds of districts. She hadn't been training for nothing, she even had valuable training, some against Rafe, who was a victor, so it was a bit helpful. Astrid stood up there, and she knew she was coming home alive, there was no excuse not to. That was when she heard Anders being called up and her eyes shifted towards where he was standing, and she watched him come up. At least she knew who her district partner was, but she couldn't help feeling a little sympathy for Ander's younger brother she briefly heard about before this. Eh, shit happened.

"Astrid Splints"

The name came out and Anders almost didn't believe it. I guess it really didn't matter if you were the little sister or girlfriend of a victor, you were still vulnerable. You were still able to be picked for the games and what was obviously being proved to him right now was you were never safe, not until you turned 19 that is. He watched as Astrid walked up onto the center of the stage as if nothing had really happened. Well what more could he expect, this was District 2 after all.

"Anders Yorke."

Anders couldn't help but do a double take after he heard his name. Though he could not let himself show that surprise in his face, no he had to own it. He didn't have that same joking smile that he normally had, but instead a look of complete seriousness. He had to match the same emotion that Astrid was putting on her face because he needed not only the people of his district but also the people of Panem to know not only he, but the duo from District 2 was one to be taken seriously. The escort announced the tributes for District 2 and made them face each other to shake each others hands and as he grabbed Astrid's he spoke quietly just loud enough for her to hear. "Fancy meeting you here." He turned back around to face the front before they were put into the rooms of the justice building to await their goodbyes and he spied his brother Sammy. Anders nodded to his brother, trying to not only be strong but also assure his brother that he was emotionally solid, even if he didn't want to be right now.
