Collecting

“Rain and thunder,” said Rachel. She had been a slight daze the entire time. She was alert enough that she would have noticed anything new but off in the distance enough not be bored. She could talk to herself but she didn’t feel like it. She talks to herself when she talks first.

“Besides that nothing, it’s kind of eerily dull. Are you ready to stay away?” she asked. She knew this was too good to last. Nothing that is good lasts. It’s a fact that Rachel knew all too much about, way much more then she wanted to know.

“I’m going to sleep because I’m no use if I’m tired,” said Rachel. She knew her dreams were going to be bloody and make no sense but she wasn’t afraid of them anyone. The only thing that scared her was death; she was scared of what happened after she died. But then again the idea of seeing her parents and brothers again kind of made her excited for it, she missed them so much.

Rachel was suddenly back home when she was very little with her mother cooking humming a lullaby while she would push her youngest brother’s cradle once in a while. Rachel’s other younger brother was playing with a wooden train his father had made and was running around the house playing train. Rachel had a handmade doll in her hands. Suddenly, everything exploded into a cloud of maroon. She heard her brother scream of help, she could swear she could see the bull’s eyes looking straight at her like it had when it had ran his horns into her brother. She could hear her youngest brother coughing and crying, it was horrible seeing him so weak and full of measles. Then then shots of gunfire.

She snapped up straight screaming. She felt like she couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t believe that her dream had to be so disturbing. She could never understand why her father was never in them though.

Rachel wanted to curse at herself. Why could she just be normal? She was angry at everything that that very moment. She felt like cursing all of Panem. She felt like the universe had something against her, everything she loved was taken away. She wouldn’t mind dying anymore; she just wanted this nightmare to be over with.

“There is no point of being my ally. I told you I was crazy. I may make it a bit farther but I will end dead sometime in the future. We all do. Nearly all of us will die anyways,” said Rachel coldly.

Rachel felt cold, heartless and bitter. This place was changing her. Maybe it was just the rain making her depressed. She tried to think of what she could do to collect water. She knew she would need water soon or else she would die. “We need to find a way to get water,” she said. She stuck out her tongue hopping to get some water.

Rachel walked over to the water and slowly drank water knowing better than to sip quickly. She knew they had to find a way to carry the water if they wanted to leave the area. She wanted to get this nightmare over with even if it means killing someone. She just hopes they don’t become the only two and end up having to kill each other. “We need to make something to hold the water and then we should move before mutts are released,” she said.

Talmon heard the plan about collecting water. "Sorry, but I have nothing. What about you?" He looked over at her and waited for a response, wow he felt clueless... And kind of bot really helping.

An idea came to Rachel's head. It wasn't her best plan ever but it could work. If it didn't she was sure she could come up with a better one. Time was ticking away so she was going to try everything that came to mind. "I suggest chopping off tree bark," she said. She held one of her two axes up. She was glad she had grabbed axes now, they are very handy. She never would have seen that coming though.

"Umm... Ok?" Said Talmon as he grabbed an axe. He had no idea what the girl was planning. He just decided to roll with it though. He cut off at a tree. Picking up bark that fell off. "So what is this for?"

"I am going to try to carve the bark into a bowl or something trying to make something to store water in. It might now work but it's worth a shot," Rachel said. She was trying to think out her plan into more details while planning a back up. She was wishing that this wasn't made harder then it already was, how hard was it to give tributes water bottles.

Talmon nodded at the girls idea. He quickly grabbed bark off of a tree. He looked around a bit. Hopefully this will work.

Talmon sighed, this was just either a sick game or his companion was dead. He had no time to find out so he continued with what she would've wanted. As he broke off bark he thought he heard a noise, he quickly turned around too see what it was. Or if it was actually there.
