Reaping Day

The District 4 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 29th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

Amaya walked to her place as she stared blankly at the woman. It was that time again. Recently everything had been haunting her and the Reaping Day did it without fail as well. While the escort put her hand in the bowl her mind kept replaying the moment she said one name last Games. She bit her quivering lip to stop herself from starting the waterworks again. Amaya took a glance over to Kaira and she knew that they had to avoid this. They weren't in a good state of mind at all for this. She imagined the escort pulling out from the boy's bowl, reading out his name again and again and again, as if forcing him to go through the torture all over again. She squeezed her eyes shut and dropped her head down, not wanting to know the names, yet her ears could only strain in the painful silence, needing to hear the names.

Theta walked to the justice building in a relaxed manor. she would be fine with being reaped. she would be fine if she wasnt. she is not the volunteering type though. she had her finger pricked as she walked onto the concrete floor. then to the section housing her age group. she had a feeling these games will be fun.

An older girl, 18 by the looks of it, stepped out to volunteer, she made her way to the stage confidently and announced herself as "Matilda Strait"

Amaya's tensed body began to relax a little, they were safe for another year, but she looked up to the tributes that made their way up the stage. Just then, an older girl stood up and volunteered. Was she suicidal or something? Amaya slightly shook her head in dismay. Usually careers and volunteers were the same thing around these "career" districts. Careers, yes, but there hadn't been many volunteers in this district. Amaya looked back down on the ground again, avoiding the two tributes. She could only hope for the best for them, but she swore never to painfully watch the Games ever again. How did it feel like being up there, knowing that you have a 23 out of 24 chance of dying? How did he feel last reapings when he was up there? Amaya didn't want to stay here any longer than necessary, it was literally killing her from the inside just being here again, the place where she last saw and felt her brother.
