What if you make sure that the reader has enough time to fall in love with the character who is going to die. You want to make sure that the reader has emotionally connected with said character, otherwise her death will just go straight over the reader's head, even if they're a big deal to other characters. Maybe keep the death until the third or fourth chapter. :3

Hmm. Yes, that should be taken into consideration. It depends how much Sori can make us love the character before s/he dies, because it would be great if it actually sounds like that's the main character. Imagine if Katniss Everdeen died the first day of the Hunger Games in the bloodbath, and we heard the rest from all the other tributes. xD
