The District 3 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 27th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

Key looked around the Justice Building. He was wearing his best clothes, a nice suit and shiny black shoes. Key gave a smirk, as he watched all of the girls tense up. He knew that he wasn't going to get reaped, and if he did, Key could get someone else to volunteer for him.

.:With a snatch of a paper among thousands, the small envelope was pulled from the big glass bowl. With a deadly taught silence the escort returned to the microphone. A scratch of opening paper, and the escort cleared their voice

"Angela Breeze" they called.

.:The silence deflated like a balloon. "Now for the boys." Repeating the same process the escort loudly said into the microphone

"Atom Cropper"

.:The two tributes had been chosen for slaughter, all that would be left would be to cart them off for their grand appearance in the Capitol. "Now then, are there any volunteers?" The escort asked as their two tributes joined them, on stage.

The escort dipped her hand into the bowl and picked up a piece of paper. She slowly opened it and took a second to look over the name. She calmly announced,

"Mikayla Melsona." Her voice blasted through the area. Mikayla was stunned yet relived. She was happy to leave her mean step-mother and be able to live a life of luxury for a little. Mikayla walked toward the escort proudly showing no fear.

Then, the escort continued, "And now, for the boys"

I'm confused...My tribute Atom was picked, but on the list of tributes he's replaced...I wasn't online until today, did I lose my slot?

I let out a gulp as I glanced around at the crowd gathered around the stage. There was a volunteer for the girl who had been chosen, and the original tribute let out a breath of relief as she left the stage. I knew that no one would volunteer for me. "Atom!" one of my sisters shrieked, and I looked up in time to see my neighbors soothing her. I gave them a nod of thanks. They would take care of my sisters. I probably wouldn't be coming back so it was good to know that they were in safe hands at least. Mikayla and I were suddenly ushered away by our escort. I was headed towards my inevitable death.
