Sometimes, chicken farming was almost too tedious for even Stacey to handle. The last batch of chicks had brought in too many roosters for even the whole Crane family to eat, so the rest were to be sold live. Stacey had left Zoe at home today, replacing her daughter with a crate of eggs, goat milk, and live cockerels, with her only instructions being to “sell it all.” Ah, this was the life.
Stacey called out her usual sales pitch, which managed to snag a few buyers, but most people just stared at her. By noon, she still had plenty of goods left, and the cockerels had started getting restless. They cackled and quarrelled in their cage, catching more than a few angry glances from the surrounding Peacekeepers. Stacey just shrugged and sighed. If only something would come along to distract her.
