The Unknown

Mars walked through the front doors of the building, and looked around. It appeared to be some kind of military headquarters. He had no idea what to expect so he decided to explore the compound. Surely a military building would have some weapons, that is if the other tributes didnt already get to them. Mars thought it wouldnt hurt to check it out, just in case.

Mars didnt see anything on this floor, but there was a staircase. One leading up and one leading down. Mars figured that the upstairs would probably be living or meeting rooms, and didnt think that there would be anything worth his time up there. Mars decided to try the stairs leading down, probably to the basement or maybe even further.

As Mars descended the stairwell, it began to get darker and darker. Pretty soon it was so dark that Mars was barely able to see anything at all. He placed his hand on the wall to guide himself down the stairs. Once he reached the end, he tried hard to make out what it was that was down there.

Mars could make out that the corridor seemed to thin out, but just barely. He decided to press on. Keeping his hand on the wall he kept walking. Slowly, one step at a time, he continued down the corridor. He didnt know what was at the end, he could only hope it was something good. Mars thought about Catelyn, he wondered how she was doing and if she was anywhere near him. He knew she had gone to the city to look for materials but he had no idea where she was, he could only hope to the higher powers that he would find her.

Mars panicked slightly when his hand fell of the wall. After a few seconds he realized that there was a new tunnel . He didnt know whether he should take this new tunnel or continue with the original one. Mars decided to give the new tunnel a try, if needed he could always double back and go with the original one. Mars turned and placed his hand on the new wall, and moved down this tunnel at a faster pace. He was edgy to get to where ever it was this tunnel led too.

The tunnels that Mars walked down kept getting thinner. Before long he kicked something on the ground. It was a stick of some kind, he noticed when he bent down to pick it up.

The stick that Mars picked up was some kind of a torch, and it was still warm. This meant that someone else had been through here not too long ago. It could have been anyone, or anything so he gripped his club tighter. Mars then remembered that he had matches in his pack. He quickly dug through his bag and pulled out the matches. He struck one against the box, and tried to light the torch. If he could get it lit he wouldnt have to walk in the dark any more, and that would be nice.

The flames from the match lit the torch, and lit up the tunnel in front of him. The tunnel went on for about 5 more feet, and then came a fork. There were two tunnels, one to the left and another to the right. Mars had a choice to make now, would he take the tunnel to the left or to the right. Mars decided to go to the left tunnel, because everyone always went right, and he never followed the crowds. Mars walked down the left tunnel, wondering were it led to.

The corridor was pretty short as Mars now saw a set of stairs and light which made his torch now pretty useless. He could go up or go back.
