Desperation

Mars arrived at what seemed to be the ruins of a once majestic city. 'Surely this place would have something useful inside.' He thought. Mars entered through what was left of the gates, the towers were crumbled, and the gates were hanging crookedly on their hinges. The streets were lined with houses that were crumbled, abandoned, or just a pile of rubble. Mars walked down the street wondering if any of these houses would have anything left that he could use.

Mars noticed that a few houses looked better than the others, maybe these ones had something inside. His throat was still dry, and he felt dizzy from dehydration. Mars decided to take a quick break, he reached into his bag and pulled out an apple. He tried to savour it, but his thirst got the better of him. He wondered whether this would be the end, if he could only get a sponsor he might be able to continue. Mars refused to give up, and he stood up again pushing himself forward. He decided to check out one of the houses, the one nearest to him looked sturdy enough not to collapse when he entered it.

Mars entered the house, the back part was in rough shape. Something large seems to have taken half of it down. He looked around, the front have looked to be the best part of the house. Though it was the ruins that caught Mars's attention, there was something back there. He decided he would continue further back to see if he could find out what it was that attracted him. He moved very carefully, to not cause any disturbances.

Mars reached the back end of the house. He looked through the window to what had been the back yard. He imagined it had been a nice looking back yard. Mars could see a pile of rocks sitting in the middle of the yard, it appeared to have been a well, maybe even a water well. Mars entered the back yard and went to the well. The rocks were loose and Mars thought maybe if he could find a good one he could use it as a weapon.

Mars knocked a few loose rocks off the top and they fell down the hole. He heard the faint sound of splashing, which meant there was water down there. Mars looked around for some kind of container or bucket to collect some of the water. While he searched the back yard his mind wandered to the capitol, he couldnt understand why no one had sponsored him. He was clearly one of the strongest tributes in the arena, wouldnt the capitol want to give him weapons to see a good fight.

Mars found a bucket that was attached to a rope. Unfortunately the bucket was broken beyond the capability of holding any water. Mars untied the rope from the bucket, he might be able to use the rope later so he put it in his bag. Mars continued his search for a container and also began to look for a suitable weapon since the capitol had not yet decided to sponsor him.

Mars's search came up empty. Frustrated and disappointed, he walked back through the house, and back onto the street. He continued his way down the row of houses until he came upon another one that looked decent. He entered the house, and looked around to see if there was anything that caught his attention.

The house Mars now stood in was covered in rubble. There was a large hole in the ceiling right above him, and a set of stairs to the left. But the thing that caught Mars's attention was the piece of support beam on the couch, he wondered if it could be used as a weapon. He moved forward towards the couch to check it out. He would check out the stairs at a later time, but now he investigated the beam in front of him.

(Dammit Ari, why do you hate Mars so much? )

Mars knew that he would never be able to use the beam as a weapon, it was much too large for him, or anyone else except maybe a giant. He returned to the entrance way, and looked up the stairs. They seemed to lead somewhere, so he started to walk up, one at a time, towards the upper level of the house.

Up at the top of the stairs Mars can see a desk that was now missing a leg and a cracked mirror that had been placed on the ground. On the other side of the room there was a bed that was missing its sheet and then of course the hole in the floor that could be seen from the lower level. It looked like someone was here before Mars.

Mars reached the top of the stairs, and stepped into the upper level. There was a desk in the corner, that was already missing a leg. It could become a good weapon, and nearby was a broken mirror. Mars moved towards the desk, and tried to break off another leg. He wondered if he could also collect some of the broken glass from the mirror. The bed on the other side of the room had been stripped bear, the sheets were gone. It seemed that someone else had been here before, which would explain why things had been taken already.

Mars looked to see if there was anything he could use to remove the desk leg. He decided to try again, he kicked his leg, pushing hard on the wood hoping to get it free. It seemed to be giving way, so he continued to push, and then pull, and then push again. Maybe the back and forth would make it crack.

Mars fell hard onto his face when the table leg gave way. He was too relieved to notice or care about the creaking of the wood that seemed to be the result oh his big tumble. He just lay there with the table leg in his hand, with a smile on his face. Mars was happy to finally have a weapon, even if it was only a table leg. Being unarmed and helpless was the worst feeling he had ever felt.

As the floor beneath him began to give way Mars tried desperately not to fall through. His attempts were useless, as he tumbled down to the lower level. His face and arms hit the floor first, causing him a great deal of pain. He lay there for a while, stunned and dazed, and when he did try to get up it was very slow and clumsy. Mars looked at the damage, his arms were quite battered, and he guessed his face didnt fare any better. He cursed loudly bearing through the pain as he stood trying to catch his breath. Now that he had a weapon, he didnt know what he should do. His first thought was to go search out Glyph and take him down for betraying him. However he figured that Glyph was probably in a lot better shape than himself, so then his thoughts wandered to getting some medical aid. Slowly he rummaged through the ruins of the house, looking for pain killers or wraps he could use to cover his wounds.
