The Adventures of Stalking

Jared stood, leaning against a wall. He had brought along his notebook and pen, his most prized possessions, and was waiting for someone to walk along. He was dressed in a black vest, plaid shirt, black pants, black boots and a black hat. Some people would pass by and he would smile back, then say something like, "I had trouble getting my pants on today..." and he would wait for there reaction. He did this to make them hurry along, and it usually ended up with a very confused reaction. Jared always found this amusing. He jotted down what he said, what happened, and put his notepad away. Most people would think he was mentally ill for saying weird things like that. Which was a good thing. He waited for someone else to come by, that peaked his interest, so he could follow them and see what they were up to and "gather intel" on what their behavior.

Marcella Thyme of District 11 skipped, yes skipped, merrily down the streets of the upper district. Her head was filled with a tune and her in her pocket sat Percival the rock which was a now treasured gift from a friend who was killed in the games a couple of years back. Marcella really missed "Smash," she was one of the few people that really got her and understood her dreamy nature. She had also not been able to find someone she could go on adventures with, not for lack of trying though. So instead, Percival was her new travel buddy and that was precisely what they were doing now.

Marcella walked and smiled to a few random people and waved to a couple which threw off a few if them. They all looked so grumpy and Ella couldn't really understand that. She always told herself to be happy, even when she felt sad. She just shrugged though and as she did her long brown hair bounced against her shoulders. As she moved though she got the feeling as if someone wss following her or watching her. She couldn't describe it but it was that feeling of having eyes just watching you intently. Ella stopped in her tracks abd looked around with her eyebrow raised ever so slightly on her forehead. "Hmm..." Was all she said as she looked around and saw no one there. She just shrugged and walked again, but still not really able to shake the feeling of being watched.

Jared had almost been spotted. He had gone behind a wall when he saw her stop. He waited a few seconds, jotting down notes crazily. He wasn't sure what her deal was...she was skipping, which was very unlike a lot of people. He started to walk towards her again, rushing to some bushes, moving with them as he followed her...and she was skipping, which was really strange to him...he didn't think he had seen people skip before...

Marcella continued walking up and down the streets of the upper district, still unable to shake the feeling of someone following her. She tried not to think much of it but the feeling just stuck with her like the bad taste that seemed to stay in your mouth after you drank some rotten milk. But whenever she took a glance behind her she didn't see anything or anybody. Then she heard the bushes rustling behind her as if something or someone was hopping in between them. She thought for awhile it might have been a kitten or something cute that had happened to follow her, maybe it thought she had food or something. Ella stopped right in her tracks and did a 180 degree turn and walked over to the latest moving bush. She walked quietly, hoping to not scare the little critter away and pulled back a few branches. "Hello..." But what was waiting for her wasn't a cute kitten but instead a boy. Ella was a little dumbstruck at the scene in front of her, it was definitely not what she expected. "You're not a kitten," she said with a tone that suggested she was little confused and a little disappointed.

Jared had made too many noises. She had discovered him an he said, "Umm...no...I'm Jared...and I like apple pie..." He had thought she was going to start trying to hit him when she found out he was following her. That's what most girls his age did, and older. He put his notepad away and he got up. "What's your name?" He asked curiously. He would have to take a mental note of this to jot down later.

Marcella just stared at him for a moment after he spoke. His words did not explain why he was in a bush in the first place or why he had been following her to begin with. It also did not explain why he wasn't a kitten which was in her mind one of the more important questions at hand. Apple pie did not compute in her brain. He then asked her name, which was a customary question when meeting someone new around the district, and it would be rude for her not to answer even if she was still a little confused at the moment. "Uh...my name's Marcella, but you can also call me Ella. Or Marcella, which ever works." She then tilted her head as she spied what looked like a notepad in his hand. She went to go and reach for it to see what it was. Ella was awfully curious as to what was inside, even if it was considered rude to try and take things from people. "What's that? Something top secret?" She smiled towards him and her eyes wide with expectation.

She had seemed confused by what he said earlier. That was good...he didn't lose his touch. He said, "Nice to meet you Marcella..." She seemed nice enough...and also completely oblivious to what people would normally consider him doing. Then, she made the mistake of reaching for his note bad, and he tried to scramble away. He ended up falling down on his side awkwardly. "This...is my notepad. Something I don't show people...do you like kittens?" He threw in that random question to keep up the random persona that he had built.

Marcella pulled her hand back to her body as he pulled himself away from her with his notepad. It must have been full of secret stuff because he didn't want to share with her and she would be lying if she said she didn't want to know what was written on those pages. She figured maybe she would try later, but for now she had to answer questions that he was asking her, ones that weren't necessarily important to anything but more or less just random. "I think the question is who doesn't like kittens." Ella then looked down at Jared's notebook and then back up at him. "Are you going to write that in there?" She pointed to the pad of paper but kept her arm closer to her body as to spare him falling down awkwardly again.

He looked at her, and laughed a little when she answered his question. He got up again and was smiling. She asked if he was going to add that to his notepad and he says "Oh...right, yeah..." He opens his notepad and scribbles what they had said including the things he had made a mental note of earlier. He had it tilt down enough so that she could see it, but not much could be made out since it was mostly barely unreadable scribbles. The only word that was really clear was "Marcella" and he then closed his notepad. He smiled again and asked, "So...why were you skipping?"

Ella noticed as he opened up his notepad and scribbled some stuff down. She looked trying to see if she could make out anything written on the paper but it all looked like squiggles and lines. The only thing she could really make out was her name which he wrote pretty clearly on one of the lines. Ella tilted her head to the side as Jared asked her his questions. It was like she was being interviewed or something, it was definitely interesting. He asked why she was skipping throughout the upper district, and that was something she had never really thought about too much. It was just something she liked to do, just like she liked to run around on "adventures" with Percival the rock and pick random flowers in the fields. Ella just shrugged and then moved her arms as if she was skipping. "Guess skipping is fun. Plus everyone is so grumpy here in the district and everything is so boring. I like to shake things up a bit." Marcella just shrugged again, she really didn't know what more to do or how else to answer. She stuck her hands in her pocket and felt the surface of Percival up against her palms and gripped around it.

Jared smiled and he said, "I think I'm done asking questions for now..." He noticed her reach into her pocket, but he didn't ask her about it. He started to walk away, without saying goodbye or explaining why he was leaving. He figured this would make her go after him and think of him as random. As long as she still thought of him as random, it didn't matter. But if she didn't go after him, that could create a small problem...but he didn't realize that.

Marcella's eyes followed Jared as he walked away after proclaiming that he was done asking questions. Her eyebrow raised as she turned her head to the side and his figure got smaller as he walked along the street. Marcella stuck her lower lip out as if she was pouting or something as her new "friend" walked away from her and seemed to be leaving without so much as a goodbye really. She decided instantly in that moment that she would follow him, but in the same way that he followed her earlier. Ella quietly tip toed behind him and jumped in one of the bushes and peeked through some of the leaves. This was actually very fun, no wonder Jared did it on a regular basis.

Jared felt eyes staring at him. He looked behind him, but didn't see anything. "Huh..." He swore he saw movement from some bushes, but he looked away and kept walking. He would watch the bushes from the corner of his eye. As he continued to walk, he got out his notebook and started to go through what he had so far. He started to write more in it, but while he did so, he looked around and not at his notepad. Might as well keep up the random charade.

Marcella poked her head out of the bushes after Jared turned back around. She giggled to herself quietly and popped out again and tiptoed behind him. She zigzagged in between the different buildings and stalls that were set up and tried to be quiet. She apparently didn't do a very good job though as her knee rammed up against a few boxes and knocked them all over. She quickly hid to try and avoid being seen, but did peek out for just a moment to see what the reaction was.

Jared turned around, eyes wide when he heard the boxes collapse. He went over to the boxes, looked at them, then started to freak out, making sure others were watching him. As he ran around he screamed, I don't know what to do! My whole brain is crying!" and he flailed his arms around. Eventually he tripped over one and got up, and started to freak out all over again. On the inside, he was laughing. It was fun to be a lunatic. Eventually he began to calm down. During all of that, however, he managed to catch a glimpse of Marcella. So she had been following him...well, that would explain the boxes falling. He began to walk again, shaking with fake fear, so convincing it looked real.

Ella pushed her hair out of the way after slinking back out from the boxes she had hid behind. She stayed put as Jared had his moment and glanced only for a moment before she decided to move again. She came out from behind the boxes after he started walking away again and this time didn't really try to hide all that well. She was bored of hiding, now she just wanted to move around again out in the open and not jumping from bush to bush every few minutes. Ella had a little hop to her step, not that she was in a full on skip or anything but moved with a little pep with each step. She kept following him, humming a little tune quietly to herself as she moved forwards after the boy.

Jared looked behind him slightly, but not noticeably so. He spotted Marcella skipping after him. He smiled and turned into an alley. He knew she would go after him so he went a little farther, and stopped, turned around and put his hands in his pockets waiting for her. He put on a smile that was friendly and heard her approaching the alley. He scanned through his notes quickly, and then put it back in his pocket. As far as he had noticed, she was oblivious to many things...he needed someone else he could trust. Someone around his age that wasn't his brother...maybe even a girlfriend.No...that would be to normal... he thought to himself. He stayed silent as he waited for her.

Marcella kept moving with a little bit of sway to her steps and with each step she took she weaved slightly. Soon enough she just started weaving in and out and soon enough she was making a serpentine movement. She really didn't care that she was taking up most of the street at this point or that she was almost running into people. Marcella put her hands in her pocket and felt the cool surface of Percival there amongst the cloth of her pants. She pulled him out and held him in her palm where he just fit nicely into her now closed fist. She almost tossed him up in the air but decided against it because if he fell then he would not be very happy about that at all and it would upset him. And she couldn't upset her adventure pal now could she? She followed behind Jared for a few moments but then turned and went in another direction, seeing if he would follow her now. This was turning out to be a fun game.

Jared waited a bit longer. He checked cocked his head to the side slightly as he realized she wasn't coming down the alley. He peeked around the corner, and noticed Marcella going the other way. He raised an eyebrow in confusion and began to walk towards the bushes and he lay beside them, concealed. He looked through the branches at her and watched as she walked through the streets. He slowly started to move forward as she did, making sure to make as little noise as possible. He took out his notepad and jotted down a few notes, and also circled a word putting question marks all around it. He closed it, put it away, and began to follow Marcella once again.
