| Alright, so last block/period/class today, I had science.
We were talking about the playoffs and hockey teams just for the fun of it, I mentioned briefly I'd like to see Pittsburgh or Montreal to go to the finals, and after that, my teacher was a bit of a jerk about it. (Note: He likes Boston bruins)
Anyways, so he made a little joke which I was fine with saying he should take off 5 marks just because I root for a team that's not Boston and I was all "Yes sure whatever, do what you want, I'm entitled to an opinion and I'm not going to let people stop me from having one." I sat down with my work.
Then later he asked a question about weather. He asked "What pressure is it if it's cool and clear out." A few people said low pressure and then I said, loud enough for people to hear I said "High pressure." Then a minute later this other guy said "High pressure." and the teacher went and gave that kid a bonus mark and I was all "Well wait a minute, I said high pressure too."
his response: "Well you didn't say it loud enough(clearly I did), and you expect me to show you sympathy? when you root for Montreal?" I just said no quietly.
But it ticks me off because that should have been my bonus mark, I said it first and just because I have an opinion on something like a sport teams, means that I get to suffer? I don't think it's fair and I shouldn't be treated like that. I don't think teachers should be allowed to do that.. not at all, it's not fair.
And at first, I kinda put my head down and when the lights were turned off for the movie, I cried silently to myself, because of the sensitive person I am, and I mean I was still upset but soon it fueled my anger.
Just because I have an opinion and because I voice it, doesn't mean I should get shot down, at least I don't sit there in fear of speaking up on my own opinion on something, and at least I can think for myself and I'm not some mindless person who can't be decisive on things, and at least I know where I stand on topics and I'm not a flake and bend to teh way the teacher wants.
Just ugh.
Teachers shouldn't be allowed to do that :/

| I don't know your teacher(s), so they could be really mean, and I don't pretend to know like your experience and grades in that class and stuff, so don't take this the wrong way, because if he actually didn't give you a bonus for a sports opinion, that would be not only stupid of of him, but wrong. That said...
I have a teacher who I can imagine saying that, but if he did, and that happened to me, he probably would have actually not heard me and then made a joke about the sports things, not have the sports opinion actually be the reason he didn't give me (you) extra credit/bonus points/bonus marks/whatever you said and mean. I dunno. Obviously I wasn't there so I don't know how he said it, but at my school with my teachers I feel like that's how it would have been said if it happened to me. (As a joke.) In your case, though, if he actually did deny you fair treatment based on opinions, that's not cool. Hmm... sue him? |

| No, teachers aren't allowed to do that. Some teachers are jerks like that. Some don't even freaking teach in class. (I'm looking at you my finals chinese teacher. ;_; ) Some just go missing and never come back with no reason given to the class, leaving their class empty without finishing the syllabus. (stupid geography teacher.) But then again, are those points very important? :O If its just a little game for prizes or good fun, I guess it makes it just a shade less unacceptable. But that doesn't mean it's acceptable on professional terms. At all. But we also must remember and understand, Teachers are human too. Just like us, we have bad days, they have bad days, we don't like some people, they don't like some people, we have PMS, they have PMS. Life ain't fair, it sucks but yeah :'( sucks. Next time your boss may pick on you, and some times you can't do much about it, everything sucks like that. D: I wasn't there, I don't know how you felt, or how it went down but if that small gesture is going to drastically affect you, if they really crossed the line, it's best to go talk to him, most of them are willing to listen at least, or I hope at least . Just my two cents thought . Keep your head held high! Shit happens, but life hafta go on~ <3 | |

| Chii is right, I think everyone gets a few jerk teachers in life but does it sounds like this guy is intentionally bullying you if he keeps it up... worse he may not even know he is doing it! If you feel really upset by him or he keeps singling you out you do have some options such as going to your student council (if you have one), student support (I would be surprise if you didn't have one) or even your parents (yes lame I know but they can be a teachers worse nightmare ). You may want to do as Chii says about taking to him but it's usually easier to approach with someone backing you up such as a friend, parent or other school staff. In Australia a lot of schools have really strict policies on teacher behavior, I knew one of my teachers who was actually suspended for a time and forced to undergo anger management for yelling at a student. :/ And if none of that works, I now present some fluffy kittens in hope that it will lift your spirits. | |
