| "Wait!" Violet cried, chasing after one of her family's cows, Julip, that had escaped from the farm. She was unsuccessful. The cow plundered across the lush green fields to a meadow about 30 feet away that was rich with Julip's favorite type of grass. Violet went silent. She stood still for a few minutes, staring at her, waiting, holding her breath. Then, she crept up on the cow, readied herself to 'pounce', annnnnnnnd- Julip saw her and bounded away with a crazy cow-grin on her face. "Julip!" she said desperately, getting frustrated. "Come on!" Julip looked back at her, then proceeded to run out of sight. She seemed to be having the time of her life. Violet cursed and sank to her knees on the ground. She looked up at the sky, where clouds of every shape were racing past above her. There would be a storm soon, meaning Julip needed to get back to the barn faster than she'd thought. She didn't see any reason for Julip to run away. The Fletchers had a no-kill farm, so all Julip had to do was make milk and lounge around. Perhaps she thought it was a game. Violet sighed. "Hello?" she called, getting to her feet. "Has anybody out her seen a rampaging cow?"

| Aria Vail wandered through the fields aimlessly, really only wanting to fill up the free time she had. Aria wasn't a particularly big fan of free time, at least not when she was alone. She could never find anything fun to do. More often than not she couldn't even find anything mildly interesting to do. She preferred spending her free time around other people, but today that wasn't possible. All her friends were busy doing jobs for their family, as was the rest of her own family. Somehow only Aria had finished what she needed to get done. As she was only a teenaged girl her jobs were easier than other people's though, so that migt have something to do with it.
So here she was, wandering the fields. She was about 99% certain that she want on her land anymore, which did make it more interesting. She plodded along staring at the ground, watching as the grass bent under her feet before springing up again as soon as she passed on. She was thinking about how resilient grass was when her thoughts were interrupted by a large MOO! Asia's head snapped up, her eyebrows coming together in slight confusion. If the moo wasn't bad enough the next thing she saw sealed the deal. It was a cow, grinning its head off as it ran towards Aria. Aria hasn't wen known cows could smile, but this one was grinning its head off, not literally of course. She leaped out of the way as it barreled past her. It kept running, not lookin like it had any plans to stop anytime soon. "What on earth?" she muttered, totally confused. She glanced down the way the cow had come. Maybe its owner or its home was down there.
What she found did look like the cow's owner. It was a girl, kneeling in the grass and yelling. "I've seen your cow," she offered helpfully, "It went that way after trying to run me over." she continued jerking her thumb in the direction the cow had gone. | |

| Violet heard a voice and spun around. Apparently this girl, who looked vaguely familiar, had seen her cow. "Oh, thank you so much," she said, slightly out of breath. She hurried off in the direction the girl had gestured to, but found no cow, only evidence one had been there, as the grass was a bit chewed up. Violet cursed and sprinted back to where she had spoken with the girl, not wanting to lose track of her. "Sorry, I hate to ask, but could so show me where you saw my cow? Her name's Julip, and I have to get her back to the farm before the storm," Violet explained, sticking her thumb up at the sky to show the signs of the storm. She took a moment or two to gasp for air, her hands on her knees, then straightened up. "I'm Violet, by the way- Violet Fletcher. I live right down there. What's your name?" |

| Aria watched as the girl ran off in the direction she had gestured. She considered stopping her, since the cow had kept moving after it ran past Aria, but who knows? Maybe the cow stopped just after passing Aria. Or maybe it could still be seen. Apparently it was neither of those things since the girl ran back almost immediately. As she mentioned the storm Aria glanced up at the sky. Her mother had told her a storm was coming, but she didn't realise it had arrived so quickly. Aria smiled at the girl kindly. "Of course I can show you where I saw Julip." she answered. Aria turned around and started walking back the way she had come. "I'm Aria, Aria Vail." she said, in answer to Violet's name. "live on a horse ranch a little while away." | |

| Violet smiled and followed Aria. "Thanks," she said gratefully, glancing up at the sky again and trying not to get nervous. She trailed after Aria in silence for a while after that, then decided to try and summon her poor cow again. "Julip?" she called, raising her hands around her mouth to amplify the sound as best she could. "JULIP!" She thought she saw a snippet of cow in the distance. "Come on!" she gasped, sprinting across the field after it. There was no cow there. "How in the name of Panem is a cow outsmarting us?" Violet wondered, exasperated by their lack of success. "I mean, nothing against cows, but seriously!" She sighed, seriously considering 'moo'ing at this point. |

| Aria walked along briskly, looking around for cow tracks and other landmarks that would tell her where she'd seen the cow. There weren't that many distinctive features in a field, but Aria was pretty sure they were close to where she had seen Julip. She flinched slightly as Violet yelled for her cow. She was rather loud, if the cow was anywhere nearby it should be able to hear her easily enough. Sure enough, a distant moo sounded and Violet sprinted towards the sound. Aria followed, right on her heels. But when they got to where they'd heard Julip nothing was around "Maybe this is why my family deals with horses rather than cows." she mused. "As for how she's outsmarting us, well. I get the feeling that she's an intelligent cow. Has she had practice escaping, or is this just a one off thing?" | |

| Violet laughed. "Not really. She's a bit antsy but more or less well behaved. But that's cool, about the horses. We have a horse, singular, but only because we found him as a foal all one in the field and didn't want to leave him to die. I don't even really know how to ride a horse. My parents never really let me try. Kenny - that's the horse's name - is a bit of a wild one." She looked around some more and spotted a section of grass that was thoroughly chewed up. Violet got down on her knees to examine it, and searching further, she could see there was a whole trail of spots just like it. She gasped and straightened up instantly, excited. "This way!" she exclaimed, chasing after the tracks. Sure enough, the trail continued, and soon Violet found herself catching a glimpse of Julep a few feet away. She didn't dare check to see if Aria was still behind her, as it would make too much noise to call out, but she hoped she was. It was hard for a 5'2" girl to wrangle an 800 pound cow, even with an entire life of growing up on a farm. Actually, Violet mused, I'm lucky it was only little Julip. If one of the full-grown bulls had escaped... Violet shuddered at the thought and took a careful step forward, begging the ground not to crunch under her feet. She stayed silent for a few minutes, trying to wait until Julip was distracted before she pounced. |

| Violet was about to grab Julip when someone came trundling through the field, spooking the poor cow and sending her shooting across the countryside. Violet cursed in the silence of her brain, and turned to yell at whoever had disrupted her capture, but he appeared to be clueless. She sighed, her hands flying up to her head, palm to face. She tried to calm herself for a few seconds before speaking, but it was difficult. It had been a long day, the storm was coming, and Violet was getting frustrated. "Yup," was all she could manage to say at first without a stream of curse words following it. Then she took a deep breath, cleared them from her mind, and continued. "Yes, that would be my cow. Thanks, by the way, for scaring her off after I finally found her again." Violet felt a twang of sarcasm in her voice but, it wasn't anything to worry about. Sarcasm was part of her daily routine and speaking regimen. She let her hands fall back to her waist, then, after a second thought, finger-combed her hair back down from where she had agitated it. Only after the flyaways in her hair were tamed did she drop her hands down again for good. "Look," she began with a sigh, "I'm running out of time before the storm crashes, so unless you have something hideously important to say or want to help, I've really got to get going. Catching a cow is not the easiest pastime in the world." |

| ((EDIT: This was a post, then I edited to get the template to write a new post, but then forgot I was editing and thought it was a new post, so I wrote a new one here. I don't remember what it said before, so I can't rewrite it, but the new post is re-posted below. Basically, they caught up to the cow and she was trying to restrain it but it weighs like 1000 pounds.))

| Violet took the moment of Julip's distraction with Dane to switch positions. She swung her arm around and latched on to the cow's neck, letting go of her leg. She stared into Julip's face. "Bad cow," she scolded. "We are going home now." Julip let out a sort of disgruntled grunt-moo and set her big, watery eyes on Dane, trying to gain his pity so that she might escape again. Violet scoffed and looked down, where she noticed a grungy rope looped around Julip's abdomen and back left leg. "Ooh, perfect," she said to herself, reaching over to the rope and tying it loosely around Julip's wide torso and head with a short lead in the front, making sure not to choke her. "Now come on, Julip. You've had your fun, but it's seriously going to rain any minute." She wrapped the other end of the rope around her hand and glanced at Dane. "Thanks," she said with a smile as Julip shuffled over to him and glared at Violet, who chuckled. "I think she likes you." |

| Violet was mildly offended, but more exasperated, which she showed by pushing a hand back through her hair and blowing out her lips. “I’ve been working on a farm for 16 years, storm or sun. I can handle a little rain." She shook her head and set her hands on her hips. "I just didn’t want Julip hear running around by herself. She doesn’t do well with thunder.” She smirked. Clearly, this was an arrogant one. She was about to bite back with a witty retort, but the nicer part of her brain scolded her. Shame on you, it persisted. He took time out of his day to help you save a cow and he doesn’t even know you! Invite him to dinner, at least. Violet rolled her eyes. He’s the reason the cow ran away again, the other side argued back. I should shoot him in the leg. Maybe he’d bring his ego down with him. For a moment, her mental discussion continued until she realized she was standing there like an idiot basically talking to herself. Fine, she decided. Just shut up. Hoping she was just conflicted and not hearing voices, Violet made what she knew was not a smart decision. “Sorry, that was horribly rude of me,” she seethed, trying to force sweetness into her tone of voice. It didn’t work. “I’m sure my parents would love to have you over for dinner if you’re available once they hear how you helped save our cow. Actually,” she mused. “They would probably insist.” This part, at least, was true. Her mother was very… inclusive. Violet could only hope that Dane would refuse, even though by his offer to accompany her home, she doubted it. This will not end well, she thought to herself, and sighed. |
