I take all my supplies and lug them to the middle of a cave. Hopefully, Fern and Ken would remember our plan and meet me here. I finger a loop of rope as I set up my supplies. We might be here for a while. I didn't trust Ken, but he seemed OK. Let's just hope...

"Nik!" Fern said, finally finding him in a cave, "What supplies do you have?" She had most of the necessities, except a sleeping bag and matches for a fire. There were other things that would come in handy, too, but she had to make a quick escape like her mentor said.

I smile. "I have some stuff..." I wave my hand towards the pile of stuff. "A rope, fishing rod, sleeping bag, some throwing knives, and a dagger for moi. I was hoping that the Fishing rod would get us some good food...I got the only one."

Fern nodded, "I didn't want to risk too much! I got a bow and arrow for myself," she said first, showing him the light silver bow, "And a few strips of beef!" Fern was happy Nik could get all that stuff. They were one step closer to winning.

I nod. "Good. If the fish is mutated or something, we always have the beef. Oh!" I reach into my coat pocket and pull out a fire starter. "I also got this. Good to have, right?"

Fern was relieved, "Definitely. Without it, we'd have to eat all the meat raw!" They were lucky. How did Nik survive through the bloodbath to get all of this? "Do you know who died, so far?" She heard the canon fire, but she didn't watch anyone die.

As soon as she said it, the cannon sounded thirteen times. "That's your answer. I killed one guy from nine, I think, by punching him in the stomach. Spit up blood and everything" I shrug. "He had it coming. He wanted my fishing rod."

"Ew. But I guess this'll how it'll be for the next while. We have to kill people!" Fern was confident. She didn't want to kill people, but she had to deal with it, "I think I killed the 5 girl..." Fern added. She was unsure if she lived, but Fern hoped she died. Her death meant their living.

I over hear some otter tributes talking about Jenna. It's my weak point for these games, Rhys he was fallen and I didn't help her up. Forgetting about being silent, or whatever, I start running my mouth.

"So it was you who pushed Jenna down? You do understand se's not dead, she's just over there slowly dieing! I tried to help her, but by that time I couldn't risk my own life! Jenna was a good person, she didn't deserve that death!" My this time I'm crying, my eyes tearing up, my legs becoming weak, but I straighten myself up.

"Nevermind that," I say, regaining strength. Soon I'm back o my old, fast, self. My calf muscles tighten, in case I have to run soon. My eyes narrow, but I smile. It was a weird sight. "I'm Jokk Spaff, Dostrict 5." I clinch my two knives tightly, then loosen my grip, making a big deal about putting them in my backpack. "I don't want folio anyone here, and I hope you feel the same."

Fern looked at the 5 guy, intimidated. "I- I'm sorry. But you know the only way to live is to kill?" She smiled nervously. Fern didn't want to make an enemy so early in the Games, and was not planning to die too soon.

"That doesn't mean you have to start of the games killing! I didn't kill a single person, and I consider that a good thing. I'm sorry to yell at you, I know what you mean. My brother, he killed tons of people when he was in the games. I guess I disnt want to end up like he did. And isn't it ironic that the games are mountains again?" I sigh, knowing these people didn't care all that much about my life. But I needed a group, a pack, where I could find safety. This was the group, I could feel it.

"Sorry," she whimpered. "I- I don't want to make enemies... Do you want to have an alliance?" She hoped Nik would agree. They needed allies, and Kenbert was no where to be found. Fern prayed this guy wasn't about to kill her. You have the bows and arrows, she told herself.

I stand up, dagger in hand, and walk over to the kid. "How do I know that you won't kill us?" I was almost a head taller than this kid.

Nik, don't start a fight, she pleaded in her head. Not to say she wouldn't hesitate to kill him if she needed to, but they shouldn't be looking for enemies. It's 2 vs. 1; we could easily kill him, said the evil part of Fern's brain.

I shrug, widening my eyes, and dropping my smile. Still, my calf muscles were tight, in case te boy tried anything funny. "I don't have an alliance, actually. Not that I'll last without one. This your alliance, group of two?" I point to both Fern and Nik before saying, "I don't want enimies either. I won't kill you. I have no intention of that." I put out my hand, praying she doesn't take advantage of this moment and try to kill me. I trusted this girl. She trusted me. But the boy? He seemed to think I was going to cut his throat. "And I won't kill you, because killin is wrong. You're going to have to trust me on this one. I'll tell you anything, do anything, to prove I won't kill you." The boy was taller than me, painfully so, and I couldn't let him kill me. I wouldn try to kill him back.

I nod firmly and go to sit on my sleeping bag. "Alright fine. I trust you. Now, what are you good at?"

Fern held out her hand, smiling, "I really am sorry about the girl from your District," she said, with sympathy. "There's also the boy from 4, but we don't know where he's at," She peered around, hoping he wasn't dead. Kenbert would make a good alliance.

I pull out my knives, but don't point them at Nik. "Knives, hunting, daggers." I shrug. This was the stuff I was used to. Some people found it a big deal that I could hunt with knives, but it really wasn't. I was born with the gift, and practice perfected it.

"I mostly get rabbits, but around here, I could get some pretty big game. Wouldn't you think?" I toss a knife at a passing bird, but it's small. As the bird cringes, wallowing in pain like Jenna, I pull out my knife, and stab the bird once, just to put it out of it's misery. "See?" I hold up my bird, and know if I was alone it would be all mine, but now I had to share. I guess that didn't really bother me. I liked supplying people with food. It was like hunting for rabbits so I could feed my family. These new friends, they were my family.

Still, what if Nik didn't trust me? I could never be sure. What if he was plotting to kill me. That wouldn't do. I needed to stay alive, and I wasn't sure if the boy wanted me that way, even though we were an alliance. He could brake it, just as easily as he could slit my neck.

Fern smiled, "Great! You can be a great help!" Fern was happy to have Jokk as an alliance. Still smiling, she said, "Nik has matches, so we can start a fire, and cook it, later." Fern smiled at Nik. The three would have something tto eat, for now.

I hold up the matches for clarification. "Awesome. Maybe, if I can catch some fish, we can have a pretty good meal."

Fern smiled, but then realized something, "I haven't seen any water yet, have you?" she asked. Why would they have a pole if there was no water? So they could fight over it? "Well, I guess there has to be; then they wouldn't give us the pole."

I smile, knowing something they do not. Reaching inside of my backpack, I pull out a tall jug filled with water. "I got this. It was dangerously close to the center, but hey! I got it, and I came out alive." I pour the water into the cap, which turned into a cup when turned upside down.

"I don't know if it's purified though," I warn, not wanting any of us to get water poisoning. "In this sack," I pull out my bandages pouch, "What's in it?"

Not wanting to take any risks, I pour the water back into my jug, knowing I made the right choice when grabbing items. Still, what I really wanted was a sleeping bag. I would manage, but it would get cold. I wrap my bird in plastic that came with the kit I had handed the others. It had been the kit's covering, but now it was for the bird.

Fern observed it, unsurely. "I'm assuming those are band-aids." she said, with a smile. "We have food, water, weapons, and we can start a fire! The perfect alliance!" she said, delighted that they were one step farther to surviving the Hunger Games.

I nod, loving all the luxury we were enjoying. Suddenly though, a thought hit me. There was a bigger alliance somewhere, somewhere in the arena. They didn't have all the items we did. We were perfectly set, even though I didn't have a sleepingbag. I could make do of something else here, like my huge, nearly empty backpack. I unzipped it, squeezed down into it, and sighed. It would do, for I had gotten a little but smaller in the time I've been at the games. Then, I get out and zip it back up, my feet scraping the rocks as I sat back down.
