Reaping Day

The District 11 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 29th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

Marcella skipped through the crowd. She was the only person doing so it seemed, but she was someone that tried to see the best in everything. Even in a ceremony that condemned the two people picked. She stood over on the half with the other girls in her district and rocked back in forth as she waited for the names to be drawn and the tributes to be picked. She looked around, scanning the faces in the crowd and seeing a few people she recognized. That was when the escort called out the names, both of which were people she had never heard of. She felt a sense of relief that her family and herself was safe for another year. But also regret for feeling that sense of relief.

Arisu walked to take her place with a little bounce in every step. She's not suppose to be happy or excited on Reaping Day, but she couldn't help it. Once a year she would be able to get out of the orchards for a little while. So the Justice Building isn't the best place to get out, but it's still something! Arisu tiptoed to try and look over the shoulder of the girl in front of her, which only made her pout when she realised that she was most probably stuffing the girl's hair in her mouth instead. She could hear Ryuu chuckle, probably at her, from afar where he finally got to stand somewhere other than the crowd that were eligible for the Games. Arisu gave up and just listened as the escort started to pick out the names, not wanting for Ryuu to laugh at her again. Willow was a name that was very familiar but Arisu didn't dwell on it for long as she heard Viktor's name. At first, she felt sad that he got to have all the fun in the weird Capitol, then she felt sad that she may never get to hang out with him again. And he never got to come over to the orchards yet... Arisu thought while she strained her neck to try and look at the tributes who headed up the stage. She started getting annoyed by the tall girl in front of her and she decided that she'll just have to meet up with him later, one last time before they go off to play.

Willow screamed. She took a step back, but the peacekeepers were surrounding her. One grabbed her arm and she wrenched it out.“I'm just twelve!” she screamed in protest as they pushed her towards the podium. She continued to protest...but what could a twelve year old girl do?

Viktor hated this time of the year. He hated the thought of the Capitol having control over all of their lives. Making them fight to death with all of the other districts kids in a mass slaughter for the capitols amusement. "just a couple more years I have to endure this", he thought to himself. He then turned his attention to the stage. Of course, like every year they drew the name of the girl first. He sighed in relief that it was not Arisu. He could not bear to see the only person he had really met go to slaughter. Then was the boys turn. His heart skipped a beat when he heard his name drawn. He did not break down, that was not who he was, instead he looked around the crowd trying to find Arisu. When he did, he mouthed the words, "I'll be back". Then he went and tool his spot up on stage.

Forcefully, Willow took her place in the stage. She did nothing to mask her fear, and stood there, in fear. She looked at the boy who stodd oppostie her. He seemed to be looking for someone. But who?
